UPDATE: Unions resolve labor disputes at State Fairgrounds
CSEA and the other unions that had ongoing employment issues at the New York State Fairgrounds have announced that they have resolved those concerns, avoiding a potential union boycott of the Fair.
The Greater Syracuse Labor Council worked with several unions, including CSEA, and representatives from the Governor's Office, as well as high-ranking state officials and the Fair Administration to come to solutions that would keep as many union workers as possible working at the Fairgrounds.
Last April, 20 CSEA-represented year-round Fair workers were terminated as a result of the Fair's switch from being operated by an Authority to a division of the State Department of Agriculture and Markets. Through several Labor-Management meetings, the union was able to get most of those workers re-employed at the Fairgrounds, and the State did apologize for the breakdown in communications that allowed the disputes to arise.
CSEA will go ahead with our booth in the Fair's Center of Progress Building and with celebrating CSEA Weekend at the Fair Sept. 4th and 5th. Due to time constraints, there will be no Labor Day parade at the Fair this year. Instead, the unions are urging their members to attend a Union Family Fun Day at the Fair on Sept. 6th, and CSEA will have tickets available, with details to be announced.
